A Rush of Blood to the Head is the second studio album by the British rock band Coldplay. It was released on 26 August 2002 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom, and a day later by Capitol in the United States. The album was produced by the band and Ken Nelson, making greater use of the electric guitar and piano compared to their debut album, Parachutes (2000). Recording began after Coldplay achieved global popularity through Parachutes and "Yellow". A Rush of Blood to the Head reached number one in 12 countries, with EMI shipping over two million copies in its first week worldwide. In the UK, it became the eighth-best-selling album of the 21st century. It is certified 10-times platinum in the UK, for sales of 3 million copies, while over 17 million copies were sold worldwide.
